 BACKUP YOUR COMPUTER IN 3 EASY STEPS

Portable hard drives are the best choice for people who frequently travel and need to back up their computers from afar. Although they don't have the same data storage capacity as desktop hard drives, they can be used in multiple locations.

The network-attached storage devices are connected to your router and offer ample space for multiple computers. These devices are far more flexible and powerful, but they can be challenging to set up.

STEP 2: CREATE A BACKUP OF YOUR COMPUTER

You will need to perform a manual backup after you have purchased an external hard drive.

Windows users can select the Start button to open the Control Panel. Next, click on System Maintenance. Finally, choose Backup and Restore. Follow the steps and choose Set up backup.

A system image can also be created. Image backup takes longer because system files, preferences, and program files are all included. You can quickly restore the computer to its original state if your computer drives fail. You can only convert individual files with this option. You can do this by selecting Create a System Image from the Backup and Restore section of the Control Panel.

You will need to make a backup using Time Machine if you are running Mac OS X. Connect your external storage device to the Apple menu. Next, click System Preferences and then Time Machine. Choose Select Backup Disk to choose an external hard drive from the available options. You will be able to encrypt your drive. It will make it only accessible to those with the backup password. Check the Encrypt backups box. Select Use Disk to begin your backup. If you have an external drive connected, automatic backups will be created.

STEP 3: CREATE AN OFFSITE BACKUP

Only one backup is not enough when it comes to data and personal files. The 3-2-1 backup method is a trusted recommendation by IT professionals. This method allows you to keep three copies of your data. One copy is in a remote location such as the cloud, and two on your computer.

There are many options to save data to the cloud. You can, for example, save individual files to cloud storage services like Onedrive, iCloud, or Google Drive. These sites only offer a limited amount of space, so they may not be the best for backing up your whole computer. They can, however, share and sync backup files between users and computers in the short term.

There are also solutions to save large files, such as the entire computer's data. There are many options for backups, including those that can be used to protect commercial or at-home data.
